The variables related to the web server that I consider important

Written on March 31, 2008 – 10:04 am | by Robert |

The CGI specification defines the data that is to be transferred through environment variables. Some relate to the web server itself; for example:

A detail in server programming

Written on March 29, 2008 – 1:54 pm | by Robert |

The web server that receives such a request has to recognize it as a command to run a program, rather than an attempt to retrieve a file. A typical web server is configured to have most CGI programs in a cgi-bin subdirectory in one of the directories associated with the web server; all requests referencing files in this cgi-bin directory are interpreted as commands to run programs. Provided there is some scheme whereby the server can identify them, CGI programs can be located in other directories as well; recognition is often based on something like the use of a file extension such as .cgi. The web server process dealing with the client would fork a new process to handle the request.

A few lines on serving static hypertext

The intent was to make more accessible the various documents being generated at CERN – the European research agency in Geneva that runs the particle accelerators for the physicists studying sub-atomic structure. Like any other large organization, CERN generates numerous reports – management reports, planning reports on proposed future uses of the accelerators, experiment reports, and endless tables of results from experiments. A personal opinion about the client server system

Written on March 27, 2008 – 4:48 am | by Robert |

Client–server systems have been operating across networks since the early days of the ARPANET back in the late 1960s. The mechanisms that are used became more or less standardized in the early 1980s.Most of the client–server systems would then have run on variants of the Unix operating system. Network communications standardized on the Internet’s Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol suite (TCP/IP).

Articles directory

Written on March 8, 2008 – 2:01 pm | by Robert |

Article submission is one of the best ways to increase link popularity for your websites. Usually, outbound links from article directory pages are very few. While in case of a standard link page, there may be more than one thousand outbound references per page, there is low link competition from article pages; this is a major advantage considering article marketing instead of link exchange. When you plan to submit articles to directories, you have to consider the following guidelines:
- The directory should be SEO friendly
- It should be indexed in major search engines
- It should accept free submissions
- The article directory must have clear submission guidelines and terms of service
- Directory PageRank is no longer a factor you should consider but traffic.

How I see the Profiles and Printers in Windows XP

Written on March 3, 2008 – 11:33 pm | by Robert |

In order to more efficiently organize Windows, Microsoft has created user profiles. Windows XP profiles are stored in a centralized location on the system drive. Profiles specify shortcuts, settings, retain ‘most recently used’ information, as well as storing My Documents and other common folders. By default, local user profiles are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\. Each folder under that folder is a user’s name, such as Administrator.

Remote Installation Services and Start Up Process in Windows XP

Written on February 29, 2008 – 6:25 am | by Robert |

Remote Installation Services allows Windows XP deployment from a network server, such as Windows 2000 (or 2002) Server, Advanced Server, or Datacenter, using a setup wizard. This guide will assume you have access to Windows 2000 Server; however Windows 2002 Server will have mostly similar prompts and dialogs. Before you enable RIS on a Windows Server machine, it is wise to install the RIS update Microsoft has provided on their Web site if you have not already installed Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Windows Me Networking and the Internet in my opinion

Written on February 28, 2008 – 12:48 pm | by Robert |

Windows Me offers the Home Networking Wizard to set up local connections and the Internet Connection Wizard to help you establish a connection to the Internet. In previous versions of the Windows 9.x family, you had to manually configure your network card and install necessary protocols and clients through the Network applet in the Control Panel. This can all still be done the same way, but the Home Networking and Internet Connection Wizards will accomplish all of this for you, including setting up and installing necessary protocols

Windows Me Tools and Utilities as I see them

Written on February 27, 2008 – 10:28 am | by Robert |

The tools utilized in Windows Me remain largely unchanged from the tools offered in the earlier versions of Windows 9.x. Windows Me does add some notable exceptions, though, such as PCHealth tools (including the very helpful System Restore utility). Let’s take a look at some of the new tools as well as some of the best tools to help you troubleshoot errors. Display settings are accessed the same way across all of the Windows 9.x family of operating systems by either right-clicking on the Desktop and choosing Properties or by going through Start > Settings > Control Panel, and clicking the display icon. From either of these avenues, you are taken to the Display Properties applet.

I’m going to build my very own Web page

Written on February 20, 2008 – 3:56 pm | by Robert |

It’s going to be very simple, mind you, but you’ll see how easy it really is to build a page. I ’ll expand on these concepts as I move into the next part, on HTML. To build a Web page using pure HTML, first you need to open up a text document. Usually, I write the code in Nvu, but for this exercise, I’m going to type it directly into Notepad, the simple text editor that comes with Windows. First, open up Notepad. The easiest method is to go to your Start

I will refresh your memory

Written on February 19, 2008 – 2:02 pm | by Robert |

You don’t see many lists on the Internet anymore, because they don’t always fit in with a Web site. However, HTML has a feature for lists, which is awesome because it makes them extremely easy to use. There are two main types of lists: bulleted lists and numbered lists. You’ve probably seen these two types of lists. See

See what I mean with filename extensions

Written on February 18, 2008 – 1:49 pm | by Robert |

Anyway, all you have to do to execute an HTML file is make sure that the filename extension is correct. After that, just double-click the file or open it directly from the browser, and you can view your document. There, you’ll find a file called index.txt. Rename that file to either index.html or index.htm by right-clicking on it, selecting Rename, and changing the .txt to .html or .htm. Alternatively, you can just highlight the file and press
